Dynamic Simulator for Umbilical Flow Assessment

Using Doppler Ultrasound

4. System components

5. Conclusion

The GUI:

• Controls the flow in the

system with several

variables:

• Systolic pressure

• Diastolic pressure

• Duty cycle

• BPM

• UI - the flow as detected

by the Venturi sensor

The Model:

The umbilical cord model in its

fluid environment, consists of a

box filled with water, a lid with

a latex layer, a drainage, tube

connectors and a latex tube as

the UC model. The US probe

can be placed on the latex

layer to monitor the flow within

the UC model.

The US display:

The US Doppler window

displays the UC fluid flow

colored by velocities can

be compared with the

GUI values.

• The prototype system is able to produce a pulsatile

wave on an umbilical cord model in fluid environment

and can be detected with an US Doppler

spectrograph.

• The system required further adjustment and

adaptation for accuracy in the lab and to be operated

by an US physician for fine tuning and feedback.
